I'm still having issues--all the steps above worked, but the data isn't appearing in the secondary computer. Double checked the ~/LIbrary/Application Support/TextExpander folder and yes, it's an alias pointing to the real folder (~/Dropbox/TextExpander).

Dropbox and TE are turned on on both computers, so can't be that either.

Help please...? Thanks!

There is an alternative to the Junecloud Automator Action for creating symbolic links. It is called SymbolicLinker v 2.0 and is available from Apple's site: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/symboliclinker.html

Both approaches work as advertised. I find SymbolicLinker easier to install.

@Charles Hall: TextExpander 3 understands the two blog post methods for setting up symbolic links. When you click on Dropbox, it will detect these. If you subsequently click on None, it will copy your settings back to your Mac and will remove the symbolic link.

I installed the links under version 2. Now that version 3 supports Dropbox, how should I remove the links and allow version 3 to natively support Dropbox?

@Joe: You don't really need to save the Automator workflow. Just run it and discard it. If you want to reverse the process, just follow the directions in reverse. Disable TextExpander, delete the TextExpander symlink in [Home]/Library/Application Support/ and put the TextExpander folder in your Dropbox back in [Home]/Library/Application Support/

Automator asked to save the file. Does it make any difference where to save the workflow file? Also, I don't have an automator folder. Can I make on in the home directory?

Last, how would I reverse the process I I decided I wanted to go back to normal defaults?

Thanks

@nev That's a good question. It sounds like you've tried using MobileMe to sync your snippets and the results have not been good... have you already contact TextExpander support to see if they can help? (textexpander@smileonmymac.com)
